Mold Assessment

I recieved my training and certification for mold assessment from PRO-LAB training and testing facility.

  1. If a full home inspection is not required because mold is your only present concern, I can do a noninvasive visual inspection specifically to locate problem areas where the molds are thriving due to a moisture problem. Moisture and warmth cause normally invisible mold spores to grow and thrive. In all cases, if mold exists, the underlying cause must be corrected.
  2. Air Sampling* - The purpose of indoor air sampling is to determine the type and amount of airborne contamination in a building. Air sampling may be necessary if the presence of mold, allergens or toxins is suspected (e.g.: musty odors, allergies) but cannot be identified by visual inspection. One or more indoor air samples (depending mostly on the size of the house) are taken, with an outdoors air sample to use for base comparison. These are sent overnight to the laboratory for analysis, with a 24 hour turnaround time at the lab for mold testing - turnaround times do not include weekends or holidays. The results are sent to me by email and I'll send the results to you as soon as I receive them. Their report will show if an elevated mold condition exists or not in the specific areas that were sampled and gives fungal descriptions of spores detected and spore counts. The report will also show elevated levels of other airborne particles. After cleanup and correction of water problems, you may wish to have another air sampling done to confirm that the project has been satisfactorily remediated and that the contamination has not spread to other areas.
  3. Tape/Swab Sampling* - Sampling of visibly moldy surfaces is used to identify specific mold types, and samples are sent to PRO-LAB for analysis.
*Disclaimer: When you get your lab results, I am not qualified to tell you which molds (or what levels) might cause health problems for you. My task here is to assist in your mold investigation by seeing that the sampling is done properly.
